Surviving Dry Spells in Home Business

September 3, 2010 · Posted in General · Comment

Not everyone can put up a successful home business. Beginners usually find themselves at a loss especially in the first few months of operations. More often than not, when the going gets tough an entrepreneur would opt to forget about the whole thing and give up the home business. If you are one of those people who are having trouble getting started and are about to give, hold on a little longer. Things could change for the better if you give it a little more time. Never give up on something until such time when you feel that you have exhausted all your options and still things are not looking better. To help you get through the worst parts of setting up your home business, here are some tips for you.

Conducting Evaluation

When things go wrong, as they most likely will during the first few months of your business operations, take time to evaluate the past events that led to your present predicament. It is always worthwhile to retrace your steps and learn what happened along the way. In most cases, the past events could help you analyze the many aspects of your business and could help you see your business in another perspective.

Conducting an evaluation is the best way to determine what went wrong in your business. Once you know what went wrong, you will be in a better position to find solutions to your problems. When evaluating the causes of your problems, make sure that you look into all the aspects of the situation. Go to the roots of the problems. For instance, if you product fails to sell, you must not just assume that your product is no good. It is possible that you product is good but you did not advertise it enough, the packaging is bad and the price is unreasonable. Take a look at all the possible angles why your product did not sell as you expected.

Studying options

Once you know what caused your business problems, you must now try to find solutions. Make a list of all your available options and rank them according to viability. Choose the best option and implement it accordingly. If the first option does not work, then go on to option two. You can use as many options as you like until you finally find the right one. However, you should also know when to stop. Note that there are cases which are simply too far gone for you to do anything. When you are confronted with situations are beyond help, it is best to simply walk away and let things be. There is really no point of beating a dead horse.

Ask for help

When you feel that there are things which are out of your league, do not hesitate to ask for help. Do not pretend that you know anything and that you can everything on your own. Always remember that somebody out there may have some good ideas that you could borrow.

Gibson Les Paul Doublecut

September 3, 2010 · Posted in General · Comment

The Gibson Les Paul Doublecut is a double-cutaway version of the Gibson Les Paul electric guitar.

Except for Gibson Custom Shop/Historic models, there are currently four types of the Les Paul double cut model, all of which have been discontinued:

Les Paul Doublecut Pro

Les Paul Faded Doublecut

Les Paul Standard Doublecut Plus

Les Paul Doublecut Longhorn

Les Paul DC AA Top

Historic models include:

1960 Les Paul Special Double Cutaway VOS

Custom 1960 Les Paul Special Double Cutaway

1958 Les Paul Junior Double Cutaway VOS

The Faded Doublecut has its origin in the Les Paul Special Doublecut, which is an all-mahogany flat-top guitar with P-90 pickups first produced from 19581960. The “Faded” model is called such because it does not have a glossy nitrocellulose finish, and has “wear” marks added at the factory to make the guitar look aged. The body is composed of multiple mahogany (usually four) pieces and is sold with a gig-bag (as opposed to a hard-case).

The Doublecut had one major design change: the original models had the neck pickup mounted closer to the neck/body join which resulted (apparently) in a weak neck join. This was changed by moving the neck pick up further into the body.

The “Faded Doublecut” is one of a series (at least as of 2007!) “faded” models being the SG, Les Paul (single cut with humbuckers) and Flying V. All of these models are made in the USA.

It is also one of the cheapest Les Paul guitars available. It appears that Gibson has since decided to discontinue much of the faded lines, including the Les Paul Special Double cut for its 2009 lineup.

A much more expensive and historically accurate version of this guitar, the 1960 Les Paul Special, is available as a Custom Shop/Historic Reissue model.

For many years after 1960 no Les Paul Doublecut guitars were produced by Gibson, and when Gibson did start making doublecut Les Pauls again, they were re-issues closely following the original Les Paul Special flat-top (no arched maple cap) design, with P-90 pickups rather than humbucker pickups. In the interim, during the 1970s, a small boutique USA guitar producer, Hamer, began making both flat-top and arch-top doublecutaway guitars very similar to the then-dormant Gibson designs. These Hamer versions of doublecutaway Les Pauls got widespread publicity for their use by the members of the rock band Cheap Trick and others.

The Les Paul Standard and Pro models of the doublecut LP are a newer concept, based on an arched-top Les Paul with humbucker pickups, similar to the Hamer design. The Pro has 22 frets; the Standard has 24 frets. Unlike other 2-pickup single cutaway Les Pauls, these Gibson doublecutaway versions have one master volume and one master tone control (singlecut Les Pauls with two pickups have two sets of tone and volume controls, one for each pickup). Many believe these newer archtop doublecut Les Pauls were developed in response to the high-end guitars of Gibson competitor Paul Reed Smith, whose PRS guitars most typically have a doublecut design and master tone and volume controls, and whose production eventually went from a small shop (as Hamer’s has stayed) to an assembly-line production rivaling Gibson’s. This opinion is further supported by the fact that the first of Gibson’s archtop doublecut Les Pauls, the now-discontinued Les Paul Studio doublecut (produced in the late 1990s), had 24 frets, as opposed to Gibson’s more standard 22 frets. 24-fret necks are featured on some PRS guitars, and are more popular with heavy metal players who often solo at the high end of the neck. Thus the archtop Gibson Les Paul doublecut models are seen by many to be one of Gibson’s bids to stay competitive with more “modern” oriented rock guitarists, though many doublecut owners do not play metal or similar styles.

Another version of the Les Paul Doublecut is the Les Paul Junior Doublecut. Like the singlecut version of the LP Junior, it has a single “dog-eared” P-90 single coil pickup. This Les Paul doublecut is currently only available as a Gibson Custom Shop/Historic Reissue model, called the “1958 Junior Doublecut.” The Junior, in both its singlecut and doublecut forms, was originally Gibson’s “student” model. The initial price of the Les Paul Junior was originally $49.50.

Distribution

In 2005, Koch Records and then Diplomat Records vice president of A&R DukeDaGod signed a deal to release Dipset: More Than Music. Also in 2005, when founder Cam’ron parted ways with Roc-A-Fella/Island/Def Jam and signed a distribution deal with Asylum, he also secured that his albums be released under his “Diplomat” label, while also securing any future Diplomat group albums under Koch. Label president Freekey Zekey also released his debut album on Diplomat Records with distribution coming from Asylum. In addition to the deal with Koch to release the “More Than Music” album, co-founder Jim Jones released his first three albums under Koch in association with Diplomat. Juelz Santana also released his first two albums under Diplomat with distribution by Def Jam, until his contract as a solo artist with “Diplomat Records” was sold to Def Jam by Cam’ron. In a 2008 interview, Diplomat member and signee 40 Cal. confirmed several labels that the individual members are and were distributed by at the time including J.R. Writer being distributed under Babygrande Records, though earlier reports listed him as being distributed, like many others on the Diplomat label, through Koch.

Business Travel for Less

September 3, 2010 · Posted in General · Comment

There is not always a good way to travel in this country because of recent events and that can make things all the worse for the person. The main focus of the business travel arena is the cost and the ease at which a person can travel. These two things do not always go hand in hand but there are ways that one can learn to make the travel experience a bit easier and a lot more cost effective.

Use the methods to make certain that the business travel that you must do goes as smoothly as possible. There is nothing that can be gained when a bad business trip goes on. Much of the time this means that there is a lot of undue stress and that can be dangerous to someone that is already in the worst of moods.

The first bit of advice when traveling for business is too make sure that you do not wait until the last minute to book the flight. This can mean that you have the worst possible cost and the worst possible flight involved in the whole thing. Most often the closer to the flight date that you book the more expensive that it becomes. This is an effort by the airline to fill the seats and make the most money from them.

The cost will be about three times higher than that of a one month advance booking. So you are looking at the primary way that you can save money. If you are able then you should plan on booking the flight at least one month in advance. The further away the booking is the lower the cost as the airline is interested in getting the flight filled from the earliest point that it can to make sure that they are maintaining a good schedule. Internet sites are good for this kind of booking and can often times ensure that you are saving a lot more money when you consider the fact that most of the sites have a deal to save the customers money with the airlines themselves.

The other method for saving money is to fly coach when you are paying for the ticket yourself. While there are many companies that will offer to fly their employees first class to the destination, the main focus is now the saving of money and many people are now responsible for their own costs. This is the reason why you should always fly coach. The airlines are seeing that many people have been unhappy with the room and all in coach so they have been making a lot of changes to the size of the seats and the room that is available.

The main focus has been making sure that the seats are two by two rather then in rows of three. This means less people and more room for those that are aboard. With this method the airlines are actually making more money then they were with the three rows of seats because more people are willing to fly under the better conditions. The coach seating is very economical and can really make for some pleasant trips. Again, the further that you book in advance the better chance you have for a deal.

Finish Your Outfit With A Cocktail Ring

September 3, 2010 · Posted in General · Comment

When you hear the word ‘cocktail,’ you may think of a party or a certain type of dress. However, there is another use of this term that’s making a big comeback in the world of jewelry. First made popular in the 1940s and 1950s, diamond right hand ring are large oversized rings that feature either clear or colored gemstones. Typically designed as either large cluster or solitaire rings, these bold accessories are making their presence known in a big way. While many of the most commonly spoke about cocktail rings were once designed in diamonds, it’s important to note that these popular styles can also feature a rainbow of colors. When it comes down to it, a cocktail ring is any large ring that suits your style.

For you glamour girls out there, white gold right hand ring come in glitzy metallics with big, Swarovski Crystals. For the boho-chic chick you can scourge the streets for cocktail rings with large, natural stones. Sometimes you can see the quintessential boho-chic donning the cocktail ring in earthy gemstones like amber or jade. Perhaps you are a punk-rocker girl who shines best in florescent colors, suspenders and Chuck Taylor’s, then snap up a plastic cocktail ring bedazzled with rhinestones. The cocktail ring can also be quite versatile in price. I have seen them in lower-end retail shops for as inexpensive as $4, while a creative designer piece can range anywhere from $80-500, depending upon the designer of course.

A clear cubic zirconia right hand ring finger will imitate a flawless diamond ring, while colored cubic zirconia cocktail rings will mimic your favorite gemstones in a rainbow of colors. Although cocktail rings are stylish in their design, they are meant to be worn anywhere. As a jewelry lover, you should not feel restricted to wearing your cocktail rings only for special occasions. Instead, you should wear and enjoy them on a daily basis. From a business suit in the office to your favorite pair of denim jeans, your cocktail ring will shine with nearly any wardrobe choice. Because cubic zirconia is an 8.5 on the scale of hardness, it’s not something that you will need to be especially concerned about wearing on a daily basis. In other words, your cubic zirconia cocktail rings can offer you the perfect combination of durability, affordability and believability.

The State of Michigan Department of Treasury does require that you file an annual income tax return form. The most used individual income tax form for Michigan State income tax is Form MI-1040.

What form do I use to claim my credits?

  • There are a few different credits available in Michigan. These are the most common:
  • Homestead Property Tax Credit- Form MI-1040CR
  • Home Heating Credit- Form MI-1040CR-7
  • Farmland Preservation Tax Credit- MI-1040CR-5
  • Historic Preservation Tax Credit- 3581
  • Homestead Property Tax Credit for Veterans and Blind People- MI-1040CR-2

When are my taxes due?

All income tax returns are due on April15th each year in the state of Michigan. If you find that you are unable to have your return completed on time then you may file an extension. The only way to receive an extension on your Michigan income tax is by filing an extension on your federal return. Once this is done then you will automatically receive one.

If you have your return completed by the due date but you are unable to make the payment in full then we would suggest sending in your return and applying for an installment plan. To apply for an installment plan, you will need to file Form 990.

Types of Japanese kitchen knives

There are two classes of traditional Japanese knife forging methods: honyaki and kasumi. The class is based on the method and material used in forging the knife. Honyaki are true-forged knives, made entirely of one material: high-carbon steel. Kasumi are made from two materials, like samurai swords: high-carbon steel and soft iron forged together (known as san mai blades), with the steel forming the blade’s edge and the iron forming the blade’s body and spine. Honyaki and kasumi knives can be forged out of either ao-ko or shiro-ko steel. Based on their kirenaga (duration of sharpness) and hardness, however they are more difficult to use and maintain. Additionally, there are high-grade quality kasumi knives called hongasumi and layered-steel kasumi called Damascus that have longer kirenaga.

Originally, all Japanese kitchen knives were made from the same carbon steel as katana. More expensive san mai knives have a similar quality, containing an inner core of hard and brittle carbon steel, with a thick layer of soft and more ductile steel sandwiched around the core so that the hard steel is exposed only at the cutting edge. Nowadays stainless steel is often used for Japanese kitchen knives, and san mai laminated blade construction is used in more expensive blades to add corrosion resistance while maintaining strength and durability.

Japanese cutlery production

Much high-quality Japanese cutlery originates from Sakai, the capital of samurai sword manufacturing since the 1300s. After the Meiji Restoration, the carrying of swords by the samurai class was banned as part of an attempt to modernise Japan. Though demand for military swords remained and some swordsmiths still produced traditional samurai swords as art, the majority of swordsmiths refocused their skill to cutlery production.

The production of steel knives in Sakai started in the 16th century, when tobacco was introduced to Japan by the Portuguese, and Sakai craftsmen started to make knives for cutting tobacco. The Sakai knives industry received a major boost from the Tokugawa shogunate (16031868), which granted Sakai a special seal of approval and enhanced its reputation for quality (and according to some references a monopoly).

During the Edo period (16031867) (or more precisely the Genroku era (16881704)) the first deba bocho were manufactured, soon followed by a wide range of other styles. Making kitchen knives and related products is still a major industry in Sakai, using a combination of modern machinery and traditional hand tools to make stain-resistant carbon steel blades.

Seki, Gifu is today considered the home of modern Japanese kitchen cutlery, where state-of-the-art manufacturing and technology has updated ancient forging skills to produce a world-class series of stainless and laminated steel kitchen knives famed throughout the world. The major cutlery making companies are based in Seki, and they produce the highest quality kitchen knives in the traditional Japanese style and the western style, like the gyuto and the santoku.

Another famous center for traditional blacksmiths and knifesmiths is Miki City. Miki is well known to all of Japan for its knifemaking traditions, and its knives and tools recall the pride of Japanese steelmaking. Most Miki manufacturers are small family businesses where craftsmanship is more important than volume and typically produce fewer than a dozen knives a day.

Japanese cutlery design and philosophy

(b) is angled on both sides, (a) and (c) only on one side, where (a) is for right hand use and (c) is for left hand use.

Unlike western knives, Japanese knives are often single ground, i.e., sharpened so that only one side holds the cutting edge. As shown in the image, some Japanese knives are angled from both sides, and others are angled only from one side, with the other side of the blade being flat. It was originally believed that a blade angled only on one side cuts better and makes cleaner cuts, though requiring more skill in its use than a blade with a double-beveled edge. Usually, the right hand side of the blade is angled, as most people use the knife with their right hand, with ratios ranging from 7030 for the average chef’s knife, to 9010 for professional sushi chef knives; left-handed models are rare and must be specially ordered and custom made.

Since the end of World War II, western-style double-beveled edged knives have become much more popular in Japan, the best example being that of the santoku, an adaptation of the gyuto, (also spelled “gyutou”) the French chef’s knife. While these knives are usually honed and sharpened on both sides, their blades are still given Japanese-style acute-angle cutting edges with a very hard temper to increase cutting ability.

Professional Japanese cooks usually own their personal set of knives, which are not used by other cooks. Some cooks even own two sets of knives, which they alternate every other day.[citation needed] After sharpening a carbon-steel knife in the evening after use, the user normally lets the knife “rest” for a day to restore its patina and remove any metallic odour or taste that might otherwise be passed on to the food.[citation needed]
